MODERN JAPANESE DINING, UMI RESTAURANT

While staying at a beautiful boutique guesthouse in Camps Bay, called Atholl House {read more about that experience HERE}, I decided to extend the treat to dinnertime too!

I have dined at the Kove Collection‘s Pepenero in Mouille Point, and 5Rooms and La Belle in Constantia and have always been quite satisfied by the service and food each time. I was pretty sure that Umi would not disappoint… And it did not! Here’s my experience of modern Japanese dining, Umi Restaurant…

Accompanied by my good friend and photographer, Andy Lund, we made our way to the cool side of Cape Town – Camps Bay Promenade! From the moment we arrived at Umi, the hostess and manager on duty were delightfully friendly. Our waitron (I forget her name, forgive me!) was such a gem; making us both feel comfortable and offered us advice on the best dishes.

We started off with the Flamed Edamame, which were absolutely delicious – our very first time enjoying this and, thankfully, educated by our lovely waitron on the correct way of eating it too! Apparently there is a right way and a wrong way… To eat edamame, you place the pod at your mouth, then squeeze or bite the beans into your mouth. You don’t eat the pod, just the edamame beans inside, which easily pop out. Easy pea-sy!

Next we had salmon tataki with onion ponzu and garlic chips. Again, a delicious dish and came highly recommended by our waitron.

For our main, we decided to enjoy a variety of Umi’s sushi offerings. Sushi always goes down well and these were both fresh and delectable!

To round off the evening, I ordered a decadent Valrhona Chocolate Fondant with green tea ice cream… An amazing combination of flavours. Andy never stood a chance of snapping a pic of this as I could not wait to get stuck into it! It was an utterly delightful dessert and a wonderful way to end off such a treat of an evening!

What more can one say but BOOK at UMI NOW – we highly recommend it – modern Japanese dining, Umi restaurant!
